New Eastside Community Garden at Festival Beach is opening on Saturday, April 17th

Located at Waller Street & Clermont Streets, across from the park at Festival Beach.

Want to participate? We need neighbors to join us Saturday for:

ORIENTATION FOR NEW GARDENERS: 9:00 – 10:00 am
Rent your own plot and plant your garden ($30 per year, with scholarships available).

COMMUNITY VOLUNTEER “WORKDAY”: 10:00 – 1:00 pm
Help us “dig-in” and establish our new garden site.

We also invite you to:
MONTHLY PLANNING MEETINGS: 6:00 – 7:30 pm
4th Wednesdays of each month at Terrazas Library, 1105 E. Cesar Chavez St.

THE NEW GARDEN WILL HAVE AVAILABLE:
¤ 80 member plots (10′ x 20′) ¤ some raised beds
¤ fruit orchard, berries & grapes ¤ herbs & nopalitos
¤ covered picnic area ¤ tool shed with tools
¤ irrigation system ¤ compost & mulch storage

Thank You Red Swing Project!

A big, big thanks to the really just wonderful and heart-tickling and delightful red swing project! As we get ever closer to getting our hands in the dirt, we can get our feet in the air, the wind in our hair and a cool view of the RBJ tower. Come over — we’ll give you a push.

New Monthly Meeting Time, Location

Festival Beach Garden meetings will no longer be taking place at Mr. Natural. Many thanks to the fine folks at Mr. Natural for letting us meet while noshing on their tasty vegan food.

The new meeting time and place is Terrazas Library on the fourth Wednesday of every month, 6:00-7:30 pm. The address is 1105 Cesar Chavez.

Design Competition: Fence Me In!

Fence Me InFENCE ME IN

Thanks for your interest in the Fence Me In design competition! We’re excited to see your ideas and hope that this competition will lead to fun and beautiful fences not just at the Festival Beach site but around Austin.

We are looking for practical design solutions as well as the wild, wonderful and utterly unbuildable. Deadline is October 15th at 5pm. Entries can be sent electronically (pdf or jpg) to festivalbeachgarden@gmail.com or mailed to Festival Beach Garden c/o 1200 Garden Street, Austin, TX 78702. Entries will be judged by a panel made up of representatives from the Festival Beach community garden and neighborhood, Austin Parks and Recreation, Sustainable Food Center, a local landscape architecture firm and a local arts organization. All entries will be displayed online and at the Festival Beach Garden kick-off party (date TBD). And the winning design(s) will be built by a great team of volunteers at the new Festival Beach Community Garden!
